Mark Twain set to go EMO in 2014-2015

CENTER, Mo. -- An original member of the Clarence Cannon Conference, Mark Twain's school board voted 7-0 to accept an invite to the Eastern Missouri Conference starting in 2014-2015.  Mark Twain has been a CCC member since its inception in 1967 and was a member of the Quint City Conference starting in 1960.

Mark Twain's AD Alan Koch said the decision was "in the best interest of the our kids to play schools that are closer to our size and also closer in proximity to us."  The EMO teams currently are: Bowling Green, Montgomery County, Van Far, Silex, Clopton, Elsberry, Wright City, Wellsville, Community R-VI, and North Callaway.  Koch also feels opportunities exist for new conference rivalries with Bowling Green and Van Far because they are close to Mark Twain School

In joining the EMO, Mark Twain will be in a league that also includes Bowling Green, Montgomery County, Van-Far, Silex, Clopton, Elsberry, Wright City, Wellsville, Community R-VI and North Callaway.  With Mark Twain joining the fold, it will give EMO seven football-playing members, meaning Mark Twain will play six regular-season conference games with three open dates for non-conference games. Koch said there might be the opportunity to fill those non-conference games with old rivals from the CCC, such as Monroe City.

"I hate to see (Mark Twain) go," CCC Secretary/Treasurer Dave Meyers said. "They've been a member for a long time, and they've been a good member, and they provide a pretty good level of competition that we've really enjoyed the last couple of years and will be hard to replace."

As for whether the CCC will look to add a 10th team to replace Mark Twain, Meyers said that remains to be determined.

"That is going to be a pretty hotly contested debate over the next year or so," Meyers said. "There are schools that would like to see us go to nine. There schools that would like to see us go back to 10. I don't know who that 10th school would be, though. Trying to find a good fit is going to be probably kind of difficult."

Meyers said Harrisburg is one school that has expressed some interest in joining the CCC. However, Harrisburg does not currently have football, and the CCC's constitution requires that all members field a football team. To be seriously considered, Harrisburg likely would need to add football, Meyers said.

A New Jersey mother has pleaded not guilty after she was accused of letting her 5-year-old daughter tan at a salon — and the little girl ended up with a burn.

Facing a child endangerment charge, Patricia Krentcil, 44, entered the plea in a Newark court Wednesday and said she “would never permit” her daughter Anna, now 6, to go tanning, WCBS-TV reported.

Centralia, MO - The 2012 Clarence Cannon Conference track meet was hosted by Centralia on May 2, 2012.  On the girls' side, the Palmyra Panthers edged out the Centralia Panthers for first place.  On the boys' side, the Brookfield Bulldogs claimed first place over the Centralia Panthers.  Dax Dollens was the high scorer for the boys, scoring 32 points on wins in the 1600, 400, and 800 and a 2nd place in the 4x400 relay.  I'll try to find out the girls' high scorer but I don't know it offhand.  I'll also try to post complete results if I can get my hands on them.
